SMP Perfection – how long will it take to get the look I want?

SMP Information

smpvirtualformScalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is rapidly becoming one of the most popular hair loss treatments for men. It’s great value, has guaranteed results and requires virtually zero maintenance after the treatment is finished.

Maybe you’ve heard that it takes multiple visits though and you’re concerned it might take a long time to get the look you want – so, how long does it take?

Don’t underestimate the value of the consultation stage

Perhaps unsurprisingly the amount of time SMP treatment can take varies but for the initial consultation and basic paperwork you should expect to put about one two to two hours aside. This is an important time whilst you and the practitioner get to know each other and you discuss your new hairline and the look you’re trying to achieve.

Once that’s done then you’ll have your first session. Whilst there’s no fixed time for this you could expect that it’ll to last up to 5 hours, depending on the level of scalp to cover. This may seem like a long time but the practitioner has to cover a large area and will be moving slowly, taking breaks to monitor that there is no reaction to the treatment on any part of the scalp.

The good news is that subsequent sessions and touch ups will generally take much less time, maybe as little as thirty minutes.

Getting that 3D look

Generally, the next session will occur a week or two later and this is where the practitioner will be a little bolder and also invite you to contribute more on the style after you’ve had some time to grow into it. It’s also at this stage that different pigments will be applied to create a layered 3D look.

That could be the last session if you’re happy with the results but it’s just as likely that there’ll be third appointment to finish off the look. Sometimes the sessions can extend to four or five but that’s not as usual.

Either way you should expect to pay for the complete treatment and not individual sessions. Beware of anyone telling you they can do it in one appointment!
