Biotin for beards: the next big thing?

biotin for beard growthBeards have become extremely popular in the past couple of years, with more men than ever before seeking help to grow perfect facial hair. There’s a significant number of treatments available to help with this, though many do appear to be largely ineffective.

One treatment that’s currently doing the rounds is biotin. A large number of biotin supplements have hit the market, all promising men help to grow a thick beard to be proud of. So, is it worth trying and how exactly is biotin supposed to help?

Biotin and hair growth

Biotin is a type of B vitamin and is largely known for its part in fat, carbohydrate and protein metabolism. It’s actually found naturally in foods such as egg yolks, cauliflower, legumes, liver and carrots.

The reason it is being advertised as a hair loss aid is because some types of hair loss can be contributed to nutritional deficiency. It is claimed a deficiency in biotin can cause the hair to become thinner. For this reason, you’ll often see biotin added as an ingredient in hair loss and hair thickening shampoos.

So, logically by taking biotin supplements, you would think it would help to protect and thicken the hair on the beard as well as the scalp.

Will Biotin for beard growth work?

So will switching to a biotin supplement help you to achieve the beard of your dreams? Probably not! While it may have some merit in the prevention of certain types of hair loss, there is absolutely no evidence it can help you grow a beard.

If you’re desperate to grow impressive facial hair and a supplement just isn’t going to cut it, you’d be better off looking into a beard transplant. The procedure works much in the same way as a hair transplant and it’s proven to have massive success. You can even choose how you want the beard to look.

Overall, biotin may have its benefits, but as a beard growth aid it’s definitely not the most effective solution available. A beard transplant may be more expensive, but the results are permanent.
