If you grew up in the States and ever watched the children’s favourite show, Blues Clues, you will have noticed the original host Steve Burns, abruptly disappeared and was replaced by Donovan Patton in 2002.
At the time, no explanation was given and the show claimed that Steve had left as the host of the show as he had to leave for college, but now the actor has finally spoken up and admitted that he left the job as he was beginning to lose his hair.
Too embarrassed to go on
Burns, who is now 43 years old talked about his anxieties and that he was worried the show wouldn’t be able to find a wig for him that left him feeling dignified. Although this is unsurprising news if you keep in mind that a survey from 2013 found that more than one third of men admit that hair loss had affected their confidence. Quitting a long term job due to balding however, was a drastic step to take.
Which hair loss solutions are available
Hair loss in men is not an uncommon condition, in fact it is estimated that forty percent of men will have noticeable hair loss by the time they reach their mid-thirties. Although unavoidable, there are many ways to slow down hair loss and surgical solutions available to treat hair loss permanently such as;
- Minoxidil, a topical treatment which is applied as a rapidly absorbing mousse twice a day on the scalp. It is recommended as part of a course of treatment and can slow down hair loss as well as promote hair regrowth.
- Scalp micropigmentation (SMP), a solution for men who have thinning or no hair at all. SMP works by depositing pigments onto the scalp to replicate the look of a shaven head; the pigments resemble hair follicles and give a completely natural look.
- Hair transplant, a surgical treatment in which hair follicles are grafted onto bald patches on the scalp. This procedure gives men a permanent and natural result.
