Almost half the men in South Korea are losing their hairA recent survey, commissioned by Alpecin, has discovered that almost half of the men in South Korea are losing their hair. Surprisingly, the main reason behind these staggering figures was marked as due to stress.

It’s no secret that high levels of stress can trigger hair loss. However, what was surprising about the results of the survey, is that many men would happily give up sex or drinking in order to improve their hair.

Many men willing to risk nasty side effects to regain a full head of hair

The South Korean men aren’t the first to consider such drastic action if it meant they could regain their hair. UK and American men have also been willing to take risks in order to regrow their precious locks; turning to medications such as Propecia, which is known to have some pretty serious, negative side effects.

One such side effect of Propecia is erectile dysfunction, along with a loss of libido. So, the option to give up sex for a healthy head of hair is certainly there!

Around 60% of UK men also report they would rather have more hair than they would more friends or money. Approximately 40% of men in the UK also experience hair loss by the age of 35, while a staggering 80% have it by the age of 80.

So, it’s easy to see why many are desperate to treat the condition. However, before you rush out and sign up for these medications, it’s worth noting there are many other effective, and more importantly, safer, treatments you can undergo.

What options are available?

There are plenty of options open to you if you’re desperate for a hair loss solution. For the most extreme cases, there’s a hair transplant or SMP.

Out of the two, SMP (Scalp Micropigmentation) is the most affordable and the safest. It involves having little pigments inserted into the scalp, creating a fresh, clean shaven look. If the hair loss is in its early stages, you could also try topical treatments such as Minoxidil.

So, there are great options available to you. It’s important to get the cause of the hair loss diagnosed before you seek treatment however. There are many different types of hair loss and some can be caused by medical issues which would need medication to clear them up.
