Within just a few years, Styles went from being completely unknown to one of the biggest stars on the planet as confirmed by his thirty one million followers on social media site Twitter. In this short time of stardom, Styles has also become somewhat of a hair icon for many young men thanks to his long thick curly locks and ever changing hair styles.

In a recent interview with Chelsea Handler, Styles was asked to reply with a one word answer if there is a product that he uses for his signature hair – to which he hesitantly replied ‘Vegetables’. Although this has left many of us confused in how exactly he uses them, we have compiled a list of vegetables which have been proven to be good for your hair when consumed.

Which vegetables are good for hair?

Every vegetable is a nutritional powerhouse and each has its own numerous benefits. The following vegetables have been shown to have properties which are highly valuable for promoting thick and healthy hair;

  • Dark Leafy Greens – such as spinach, kale, romaine lettuce and watercress. These leafy greens contain plenty of vitamin C and E and can be eaten in both a raw or cooked form. Each of these vitamins are antioxidants and work by increasing blood supply to the scalp which can improve the nutrition supply and stimulate hair follicles.
  • Cruciferous Vegetables – this family of vegetables including broccoli, cabbages, kale and cauliflower is rich in vitamin C, which is vital for the absorption of iron and in building collagen which can maintain the strength of the hair.
  • Winter Squash – such as butternut and pumpkin, winter squash contains plenty of Vitamin E. Vitamin E plays an important role in building and repairing tissues, it can also help reduce inflammation which can repair any damage to the hair follicles and encourage further hair growth.

Remember that eating a well-balanced, healthy diet is important for healthy skin, hair and nails. If you are concerned about hair loss, it is important to see a doctor or a hair loss professional to work out if there are any underlying causes and to discuss possible treatment options.
