EastEnders' star's hair transplant

EastEnders' star's hair transplantIt’s good to see more and more celebrities coming clean about their hair transplants, and the latest is Joe Swash – and it’s a secret he’s been hiding for years.

During a stint as a male guest on ITV’s Loose Women, Swash – who played Mickey Miller on EastEnders from 2003 to 2011, as well as being a former winner of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! – dropped his revelation during a conversation about Cold Feet actor James Nesbitt’s recent transplant.

An occupational hazard

“Personally, for myself, I had one done years ago,” he said. “It was for myself and something that I wanted to do, to make me feel better. I was on TV, so that might have had something to do with it.”

As a regular on television, and a man in his early thirties who was concerned about his thinning thatch, Swash was pressed by host Coleen Nolan as to whether he felt under pressure that his career would suffer along with his hairline.

“I did do it a few years ago, so I was probably in a different mind-set than I am now,” he replied, but admitted that he was worried about looking older than he actually was. “With the job that I’m doing, being on TV, I wanted to look my best, which is probably not the best way of thinking about it. It’s how you feel personally.”

After he underwent the (obviously very successful) transplant, he elected to keep it under his hat. “I was embarrassed about it, and didn’t want [people] to know. But now Wayne Rooney has had it done and is very open about it.”

When asked whether he regretted having treatment, Swash was adamant. “No, never regretted it. I think for me it was the right decision.” And we’re in full agreement – not only with the results, but also with his attitude.
