Options for Scalp Micropigmentation and Shaving

SMP Information

wet-shavingIf you’re planning your SMP treatment very soon, you should get into the habit of frequently shaving your scalp properly. The main idea behind starting to do this is to get into grips with what you should expect in the foreseeable future. There are three general options which you may make use of, depending on your preference and lifestyle.

Clippers on a Zero Guard

There are a lot of reasons why people may prefer using clippers. There is a certain 3D effect which can be enjoyed by those who are ‘diffuse’ thinners, and for these guys clippers may be the best option. Also some men are not comfortable with shaving their head completely. If you suffer from sensitive skin on your scalp, this might be your best bet.

This however will not achieve the best look in most cases, especially if you have severe hair loss. Those who use zero guards will most commonly have to shave their head each day.

Electric Face Shavers

If you are comfortable with carrying a charger with you when you go away, this might be the best option for you. Electric shavers in general are portable, and nearly all of them are extremely easy to use and get used to.

There are two notable downsides to electrical shaving. First of all, they take a lot of time to get the job done. Secondly, you will need to pass the skin many times, and this will naturally result in irritation of the scalp.

There are foil and rotary shavers available. The former will typically be a better choice because they are quicker to use, and they irritate the skin less. However, they do ‘grab’, and they do not last as long as their rounded counterparts. It really ends up as a matter of personal choice.

Make sure you buy the best shaver that you can afford. Usually the pricier shaver will be the better choice, even though there are some exceptions.

Wet Shaving

Wet shaving might be the best option all round. It is the quickest and cleanest method, and it causes very little irritation. This is the preferred method for a lot of people who have undergone SMP some time ago. It also allows you to shave less frequently.

The best place and time for wet shaving is in the shower, because the process of bathing softens the skin. Quite commonly even shaving gel is not required to get the job done.

The only downside to this method is that you will be changing razors quite frequently, because the scalp is a much larger area to take care of. You could however use any razor that you feel comfortable with.

Out of all the possible options, it must be said that wet shaving is the one we recommend most often. It offers a close cut to the scalp and it definitely takes very little time. It might as well be the cheapest solution in the long run as well, even though you will be switching razors, and we believe the very best illusion of hair is achieved by our wet shaving clients.
