Galderma to go head-to-head with Allergan in hair loss market?

Other Topics

labGalderma and Allergan are already rivals in the medical aesthetic market  – each produces a different brand of the wrinkle relaxing toxin commonly known as Botox – and now it looks as though they are going to be coming up against one another in the hair loss industry as well.

With the hair loss market only containing two FDA-approved drug treatments, Finasteride and Minoxidil, it is surprising there hasn’t been more competition over the years. But this does seem set to change with Allergan’s latest development.

Here is all you need to know about what both companies are developing to fight hair loss.

Allergan

Allergan have been developing a drug treatment called Bimatoprost, which reportedly can both match and even exceed the results of Minoxidil. Results of Allergan’s phase 2 clinical trials were expected to be released in 2015, but have not yet been published.

But from what we have seen, both Bimatoprost 1% and 3% solutions have shown superior growth compared to Minoxidil 5%. An “Investigator Global Assessment” provided these findings, however; therefore it is not clear whether the findings are unbiased.

Galderma

On the other hand, Galderma announced the launch of their dual action qilib Hair Regrowth + Revitalization System and qilib Hair Health Reinforcement Biotin + Multivitamin Supplement. Both of which are designed for hair thinning and hair loss.

Galderma’s Hair Regrowth Treatment uses prescription-strength Minoxidil, providing a 5% strength for men and 2% for women in a spray bottle form. The treatment works by awakening and restoring the dormant hair follicles in order to promote new hair growth.

The Revitalizing Solution nourishes the scalp with the likes of vitamin C, proteins, lipids and antioxidants. This helps to keep the scalp and hairs healthy and strong, further helping to promote hair growth.

We have long known that diet is important to promote healthy hair growth and Galderma’s Hair Health Reinforcement Biotin + Multivitamin Supplement is packed with 5,000mcg biotin and your daily recommended doses of vitamin B12, C, D3, and E. Studies showed that after 12 weeks of use, 75% of women and 70% of men who participated in the study, were “satisfied with overall improvement.”

It is interesting to see a dual action approach provided by a company and dermatological tests have shown it is suitable for all hair types.
