The truth about Trump’s hair

Celebrities

Donald TrumpDonald Trump is rarely out of the news these days. Love him or loathe him he’s a master of media manipulation from Twitter to Fox News. The only thing that ever upstages his huge persona is his hair which seems to have attracted nearly as many column inches as his politics and is a celebrity in its own right.

Toupee or not toupee

The first and most obvious question to consider – is it real? One blogger has described it as looking like “a bunch of shredded wheat precariously glued on top of The Donald’s noggin.”

Despite many claims that it’s a toupee the evidence would seem to suggest not. At Presidential rallies he frequently invites women to examine his hair which we would be an unlikely tactic for a closet hair system wearer to employ.

Recently Amy Lasch, who used to style his hair, confirmed in a Daily Mail article that it is real, albeit “solid and matted” due to the substantial amount of gel he uses to set it in position.

Then there’s the speculation that he’s had a transplant, a weave or even a more radical and expensive treatment such as the Microcylinder Technique pioneered by Ivari International.

It’s also been suggested that the comb over style is simply hiding a flap surgery scar, where a bald section of scalp is simply removed and the rest stretched over the head and sewn together.

80s Throwback?

Perhaps the most simple explanation is that it’s actually the same style he’s had since the 80s. It’s not uncommon for men in their 20s and 30s to adopt a style and then maintain it for the rest of their lives.

The reason it looks so odd to the rest of us is that that it’s a young man’s hairstyle from a previous era on an old man’s head.

Perhaps the final words on the matter should be left to Trump himself who revealed his secret in a 2011 profile in Rolling Stone, “OK, what I do is, wash it with Head and Shoulders. I don’t dry it, though. I let it dry by itself. It takes about an hour. Then I read papers and things.”
