alopeciaAlopecia UK has put on a second year of obstacle courses, complete with mud, ice, fire, electric shocks and heights that were carried out by a thirteen member team of ‘Apatchy Warriors’. The event marked International Alopecia Day 2017 and was used to highlight and raise awareness of the condition.

The gruelling obstacle course

The team were made to get around a ten kilometre course within three hours but were allowed to help each other along the way in the various challenges. Each member showed excellent team spirit and camaraderie – photos of the challenges are all available online. Many team members were sufferers of alopecia, who found the event to be an enlightening experience. One member described the experience as a great way to gain new friends, confidence and become more accepting of her alopecia and the way she looks.

Plenty of spectators arrived on the day and alopecia awareness was raised through the use of sponsorships and team t-shirts. Alopecia UK not only organised the whole event, it even sponsored some of the teams.

In total, the Apatchy Warriors team managed to raise £2500 for Alopecia UK through both online and offline fundraising.
