Hair Transplant Dos and Don’ts

Hair Transplant Surgery

stop smokingHair transplants have become a very popular procedure thanks to celebrities such as Wayne Rooney. However, they can be extremely costly and what many people don’t realise is they aren’t always 100% effective.

There’s a chance they could fail and there are also things you should and shouldn’t do to increase the effectiveness of the procedure.

Here you’ll find a useful list of things you should and shouldn’t do.

Things you shouldn’t do

There’s actually a much bigger list of things you shouldn’t be doing. They include:

  • Rough combing of the scalp
  • Smoking and drinking
  • Hitting the gym after swimming
  • Wearing clothing that needs to be pulled tightly over the head
  • Dyeing your hair
  • Taking harsh showers

This is certainly not an exhaustive list of the things you shouldn’t do after a hair transplant, but it’s a good start.

Basically, anything that puts pressure onto the scalp is a big no-no. You need to be gentle for a while after the procedure to ensure you don’t end up pulling the hairs out.

Things you should do

So what about the things you can do to increase the transplant’s success?

Firstly, when washing your hair, be sure to use a mild shampoo. If you don’t, the chemicals could end up damaging the new hair, causing it to fall out.

One thing you might not be prepared for is that after the transplant, you may experience some swelling. It helps to have 1-2 soft pillows placed under the head when you sleep. This will minimise the chance of swelling and prove more comfortable than medium-firm pillows after the procedure.

The surgeon should give you a list of things you should and shouldn’t do. If you want to experience the best results, make sure you follow their instructions to the letter. The last thing you want is to have spent thousands of pounds on a hair transplant, only for the new hair to fall out.
