beard transplantBeards have seen a resurgence in popularity in recent years as luxuriant facial hair has become a hipster must have. A recent study from Braun found that 53% of men say they feel more attractive to the opposite sex when sporting a beard.

So, what can the beard-challenged do?

For those unable to grow a beard to be proud of, beard transplants are becoming an increasingly requested procedure with hair transplant surgeons both in the US and UK. In fact, the International Society of Hair Restoration estimated that more than 4,500 facial hair transplants are being carried out in the UK on an annual basis.

Beard transplant cost is a factor before making a decision and this is certainly not the cheap option. It can cost over £10,000 per procedure as it requires exactly the same technique and expertise that is utilised in a hair transplant. Using the FUE technique, donor hairs are extracted, typically from the back of the scalp, and then grafted into the recipient area.

It can be difficult to predict the growth pattern of the newly transplanted hair follicles – all hair is in its individual growth pattern – but you should have relatively little downtime after the FUE technique and you can start grooming to keep your facial hair looking resplendent.

The hair transplant alternative: scalp micropigmentation

Men might request a facial hair transplant to cover disfiguring facial scars. Another effective camouflage procedure is scalp micropigmentation or SMP. This has become one of the popularly requested hair loss solutions in recent years, as it’s possible to create the appearance of a closely cropped hairstyle by applying pigments to the scalp to replicate hair follicles. Scalp micropigmentation can also be used on the face to cover any bald patches in the eyebrows or scars in the beard area.
