What to expect during your first treatment session

SMP Information
First SMP session

After your consultation is completed our consultant will create a specially designed treatment plan for you – this means you are ready for your first SMP session with HIS.

First SMP sessionHere we will talk about the things that would happen during the first session but we first need to say something more about the booking process for the procedure.

Your treatment plan is completed and it is now time for booking. In order to book an appointment with HIS Hair you will first pay a booking deposit. This isn’t an additional charge and it will be deducted from your balance.

At the start we always encourage our clients to eat something before the session. We have noticed that undertaking the procedure when you have eaten makes it more comfortable and helps to settle any nerves.

It is recommended that clients should arrive early for their appointments and this is especially true for the first one due to the necessary paperwork. When you get there you will be taken to the client waiting area where tea, coffee and water will be at your disposal at no additional charge. The paperwork required involves filling in a standard questionnaire and a consultation form plus the procedure’s terms and conditions.

The next thing you need to do in order to begin with the session is complete the payment. At HIS Hair our requirements are that at least 50% of the whole treatment cost should be paid before the first session. The remaining amount is paid during the other sessions and the booking deposit is deducted from those payments. The payments are meant to be as easy as possible. That is why at HIS Hair we accept cash, debit and credit cards, however, Discover and American Express aren’t accepted. You should know that if you pay via credit card there will be a surcharge and when you pay via debit card there is no fee. Personal cheques are not accepted.

After the paperwork and payment are both completed you can proceed to the first session. Your hair would be cut as low as necessary using a Remington R90 razor. This is necessary because if your hair is longer it might prevent the procedure from being executed as perfectly as possible. What’s more, your shorter hair would enable our practitioner to see much better what they are doing.

It is recommended that you always discuss as thoroughly as possible what type of style you want. You should always carefully debate this matter with your practitioner. Some of the types can be modified during the SMP procedure itself but not all of them are modifiable without a removal. That’s why it is better to have an idea of what you want even before you begin with the first session. Your practitioner would usually use a white makeup pencil to draw the possible styles and that way you would be able to decide what type exactly you want.

At first the hairline should be set and then the real thing begins. The practitioner would apply pigment to your scalp using a handheld SMP applicator that has 3 micro needles. What is so important about the first session is that it lays the foundations for the other sessions. At the first session the pigment might be light and sparse. We do this at HIS because of the following reasons:

  • If the pigment is lighter than desired we can always make it darker but if it is too dark we can do nothing to make it lighter. That is why the actual colour is determined not at the first but at the second session.
  • Your practitioner would be able to note the progress of your treatment. What’s more, they will be able to see how your scalp is retaining the pigment and how it reacts to it.

The first session usually takes about 3 to 4 hours. Once the session is over, your practitioner would provide you with information about what you need to do in between the sessions. Your second session is usually scheduled when you book your first, typically planned for 5-10 days after your first session.
