Builder claims hair wax left him bald

Builder claims hair wax left him baldWho would have thought using hair wax could leave you bald? Builder Lee Hardy certainly didn’t, but that’s exactly what the 24-year old claims happened to him. Within just a few days, clumps of his precious locks started to fall out, while painful sores developed on his scalp. Now, he’s speaking out to warn others of the potential dangers.

Hair loss became so bad he had to shave his scalp

It was a couple of days after using the £4 VO5 hair wax that Hardy noticed his scalp had become really dry. At first, he put it down to his job in the construction industry. However, five days later the hair began to fall out, and he also noticed small lumps developing.

It got so bad, Hardy ended up needing to shave his head entirely, leaving him completely bald. The lumps also turned into painful sores, which he now has to moisturise three times each day.

VO5’s insulting response

Like anyone would, Hardy complained to VO5, asking for answers. However, when they responded to his complaint, he was offered a £20 voucher to hair products. Hardy saw this as an insult, as clearly the last thing he needed after going bald was hair products. After the experience, it’s also highly unlikely he would want free hair care products from VO5 anyway.

Unilever, the company behind the popular brand, has claimed it is going to investigate further. However, it does stress that there has been no other incident like it reported by other users. Hardy is suing the company, but Unilever have offered to settle the case for £250 and have promised to launch a full investigation into the incident.

This isn’t the first case of hair products leading to baldness. L’Oréal came under fire when a lawsuit was brought against the brand due to its hair relaxer range causing hair loss in black women.

Overall, hair loss can be caused by many different things, but it’s actually really uncommon for it to be caused by hair products. If you’re suffering from hair loss or hair thinning, it’s important to get a diagnosis from the doctor to establish the exact cause before treatment can be sought.
