Are bald men more at risk of heart attack?

General Hair Loss

It sounds crazy, but a recent study of more than 35,000 people does seem to indicate that balding men are more likely to suffer with heart problems versus their haired counterparts

The study was published yesterday by online journal BMJ Open (see link below) and shows some pretty compelling evidence to support its findings. The size of the sample group alone would suggest that their findings are most likely credible.

Oddly enough, these findings were associated with a thinning of hair on the crown only. No evidence was found to suggest that a receding hairline could be linked to an increased risk of heart disease.

Although a link has definitely been identified, a conclusive explanation could not be found.

What does this mean for hair loss sufferers?

In truth, not a great deal. Heart problems are caused by a wide range of factors, not least the lifestyle choices made by the individual, most significantly diet, exercise, smoking and management of stress.

In the grand scheme of things, the loss of a persons hair is a tiny contributor in comparison to other factors. As the British Heart Foundation put it, “men should focus on their waistline, not their hairline”.

Trying to combat hair loss for the purpose of protecting your heart would be a futile exercise anyway, as your heart is unaffected by cosmetic treatments such as hair restoration surgery, drugs like finasteride and minoxidil and other solutions like Scalp Micro Pigmentation.

If you want to protect your heart, your best option is to make healthier lifestyle choices. For more information, please see the following links:
