One of the most common questions we are asked is how our hair loss treatment will hold up in years to come.
The reality is that our longest living case study is over a period of 12 years, therefore we do not know for sure how the SMP pigments will look in 20, 30 or 40 years time. We can make estimations based on our many years of experience, but we cannot answer the question definitely, nor can we guarantee that the answer will not vary from person to person. In fact, we believe the variance between individual cases is likely to be significant.

By the very nature of his role, Ian Watson travels the world meeting clients, staff, suppliers and business associates, therefore his own treatment is often the subject of very close scrutiny. As a highly visible ambassador for HIS and our MHT Scalp Micropigmentation technique, Ians appearance is very important to him, not only in terms of realism but also being able to conduct business confidently at the most senior level.

So how do we expect an SMP treatment from HIS to look in the future?
For those who are wondering, in the twelve years since his treatment Ian Watson has had two touch-up sessions, one to correct minor fading and another to break up his frontal hairline.
We anticipate that most clients will experience fading to some extent, however this is likely to be minor and very gradual. If it does occur, fading can be corrected with a short touch-up session to refresh and darken the pigments. Please note that touch-up sessions are usually charged for by the hour and cost only a fraction of the original treatment price.
MHT pigments will never discolour. Unlike tattoo inks (or the pigments used by several of our competitors), our pigments are dilutes of pure black and therefore do not have any constituent colours. This means the pigments cannot separate into individual colours over time, eliminating the possibility of turning green or blue like tattoo inks do.
What is the worst case scenario?
Although we are as honest as we can be with all our clients regarding what we know about the long term implications of having this treatment, we believe that it is reassuring to know what options are available, should a HIS client be unhappy with how their treatment looks like in 20, 30 or 40 years time.
Your first option is a touch-up session to revitalise the appearance of your treatment. This will remedy any issues caused by fading. Your second option is to either remove the treatment by laser, or remove and re-apply it. This is a straightforward process requiring just 1-2 short laser sessions. Finally if your treatment is fading, you could simply allow it to continue to fade, as this is likely to simply look like your hair is thinning over time.
Whichever option you choose, there is no real “worst case scenario”. This situation may never arise but if it does, your choices are straightforward and effective.
