The recovery period of scalp micropigmentation

SMP Information

Actually enjoying the benefits of any hair loss remedy is what most patients wait for after receiving treatment. The duration will differ depending on the remedy that is used. There will be some that have to wait for more than four months before initial evidence of a treatment’s success may be appreciated. This applies whether the remedy used is a product or a service. Among the fastest recovery periods in the hair loss industry however is scalp micropigmentation.

This treatment originated from the art of tattooing. It was a more crude procedure some twelve or more years ago. Improvements and innovations however, were consistently made upon the technique with each year that came by. This created a technical procedure that became more specific in its implementation as compared to its predecessor. Scalp micropigmentation has transformed into a camouflaging agent as opposed to a work of art. It is an illusion of hair that is meant to remain undiscovered. Any detail that would call attention to it has to be immediately rectified to preserve the integrity of the illusion.
Scalp micropigmentation seems like a relatively easy way to address hair loss. The client is meant to experience the procedure in a relaxed and comfortable manner. Service providers however make it a point to have received proper training, gained enough experience and used only the required materials to complete a quality treatment. It takes a certain amount of time and expense to be able to provide scalp micropigmentation at a high standard. Clinics that hold themselves out to be able to provide such services should make sure that they have undergone the necessary process to adequately address the needs of their clientele. Their patients after all, should only be required to sit and wait for the procedure to be completed.
The treatment proper begins with the patient already having shaved all his existing hair off to provide the technician with a better view of his scalp. Pigments will be layered according to the hair pattern previously discussed using inks as well as equipment specifically made for scalp micropigmentation. There might be some discomfort felt during the process though some have reported that they gradually become accustomed to it. A session would usually take three hours to complete with an entire treatment taking at least two sessions to finish. Clinics of good repute request that a client return after seven days at the end of every session. This will provide an opportunity for the pigments to settle-in and fade. It also allows the technician to observe how he should approach layering the next batch upon the patient’s scalp.
The additional purpose for the week in between sessions is to allow the wounds to heal. Injecting the pigments into the scalp causes small perforations upon its surface. While these might be mildly uncomfortable or even painless for some, it still causes scabs to form. This is a good indication however that the inks have been able to penetrate a good depth underneath the epidermis.
Protocol dictates that the entire seven days be observed to provide a full recovery. Patients usually heal faster than this allotted time however. The redness often disappear after two to three days while the scabs shed off on their own by the fifth or sixth day. Pigments that looked very dark immediately after the session might look a bit lighter by the end of the recovery period. The resulting hair pattern might also have a few areas that did not come out as expected. This is where the next session is used to further refine the treatment. Eventually, both the patient and technician will be satisfied that the design appears as planned. The final approval is given if it is observed that the pigments were able to hold up a month after the last session.
