This is a question we get asked a LOT, and its an understandable one. The same as hair loss, for many men turning grey is a real possibility and something that may be genetically predisposed to happen.
A survey of British men by market research firm, Mintel, found that three-quarters of men (75%) aged between 45 and 54 worry about their hair turning grey. In fact, men in this age group are more likely to report being worried about going grey than about losing hair (52%), being overweight (51%), or sprouting ear and nose hair (50%).
If you have scalp micropigmentation, your replicated follicles are designed to mimic the appearance of real, natural hair follicles. To do this, pigment shades are carefully selected to blend as closely as possible with your real hair. This pigment selection process is highly individual and is essential to ensure a successful outcome.
Despite this, due to the length you are required to keep your hair after SMP, contrary to many concerns going grey actually has very little effect on your overall appearance, or the realism of your treatment. Going grey is a slow and gradual process, and is therefore usually matched as your pigments fade slowly over time. If you do go grey, it is quite possible that the usual touch-up session that you would otherwise require to keep your pigmentation fresh will not be required. Our experience shows that greying hair matches exceptionally well with fading pigments. It’s one to play by ear of course, but to date we have not been required to remedy any blending issues following the clients hair going grey. The blend remains as natural and as realistic as ever, in fact some would argue that going grey adds ‘texture’ to the look and makes it even more realistic.
Another possibility is that we could provide a touch-up session using lighter pigments than were used during your original treatment sessions. This blend of new and older pigment dots can provide an ultra-realistic blend with greying hair.
Greying hair presents no particular challenge. As we do not know exactly if, when and to what pattern you will go grey, it is best assessed in later years so we can provide the best advice.
