losing hairHair loss is a very common problem, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t devastating for those suffering with it. The good news is, there are a lot of different treatments out there, which are known to be effective at treating the different types of hair loss. Here, we’ll look at some of the best options currently available.

Medications

As it stands, there are two FDA approved medications available to treat hair loss. These include Minoxidil and Finasteride.

Minoxidil comes in varying different strengths and it’s a topical treatment which needs to be applied directly onto the scalp. If your hair loss is quite mild, you can typically get away with using the lowest strength available over the counter at your local pharmacy. However, if you need the higher strengths, they will need to be prescribed by a doctor.

Finasteride is an oral medication and it is only available via prescription. There are no major side effects associated with the medication and it is proven to be really effective. It’s worth pointing out that both of these medications are only suitable for temporary hair loss conditions.

Hair transplants

If you’re looking for a more permanent treatment for hair loss, a hair transplant is the obvious choice. However, you will need adequate donor hairs to implant into the affected areas. It’s also a very expensive procedure which isn’t guaranteed to work 100% of the time.

So, before deciding whether a hair transplant is the right option, it’s worth having a consultation with a hair expert to ensure you’re an ideal candidate.

SMP

An alternative to a hair transplant, SMP an affordable, cover-up procedure. It uses tiny ink pigments tattooed into the scalp to match the colour of your natural hair. The result is very realistic and produces a shaved appearance. This procedure can also be used as a shading treatment to cover up balding patches in longer hair.
