The rise of SMP tourism

SMP Information

More and more people are traveling the globe with the intention of undergoing cosmetic procedures, including SMP treatments at HIS

Since the birth of HIS Hair Clinic in 2001, we have experienced a noticeable increase in the number of enquiries, bookings and completed treatments for those living in locations far away from our clinics.

I remember back in 2011 when a client called Andre flew to the UK for treatment from South Korea. I remember his case vividly, partly because he was a highly active forum member, but also because of the sheer quality of his final result. Fast forward in time just two years, and journeys like this are commonplace, despite HIS opening several new clinic locations since then.

More evidence of this would be the number of clients visiting our Spanish clinics in Marbella and Madrid, even though they live nowhere near Spain. Both are situated in popular tourist destinations, so it would appear that many of these clients are combining a holiday with their treatment too. We are also noticing a similar trend in the bookings we’re taking for our new clinic in Miami, yet another tourist hotspot.

It would appear that we are not alone in receiving more enquiries from overseas. I read a recent news article about a man called Saleh, who traveled from Qatar to Turkey for a hair transplant procedure. His wife and children went shopping while Saleh completed the procedure, just as casually as if he’d left his family for the day to play a round of golf.

Is it really that easy?

Traveling to another country for any kind of cosmetic treatment is clearly not without its risks. Language barriers, unfamiliar laws and regulation (or lack of), highly sensitive timescales and a reduced likelihood of changing your mind if you’re not entirely comfortable when you arrive at your destination clinic are clearly some potential pitfalls that need to be considered.

How does HIS support its traveling clients?

One of the most important factors is being able to communicate clearly and effectively with our clients. For this reason we employ a number of multilingual staff members, fluent in several languages including French, Spanish, Italian, Swedish, German, Chinese, Urdu and Punjabi.

Intelligent scheduling of treatment sessions is also vitally important, in order to reduce the amount of time you are required to stay in your destination country and to reduce the likelihood of needing to return in the short to medium term. We do all we can to reduce the number of days between each session and enable you to return home. In most cases, overseas clients are able to complete their treatment within a two week period.
