hair transplantWhen you are searching for a hair transplant surgeon, we cannot stress the importance of taking the time to find the right surgeon for your procedure. A hair transplant procedure involves donor hair which is precious and limited; therefore any hair restoration surgery should be planned as accurately as possible in advance so that you can achieve the best results.

Unfortunately, Tariq Khusroo experienced a nightmare hair transplant surgery in 2016 which resulted in him losing his eyes and suffering from life-threatening complications. Khusroo who was living in Saudi Arabia at the time and visiting India saw advertisements and positive reviews online for a hair loss clinic during his visit and opted for the surgery. Within twelve hours of surgery, Khusroo developed a soft tissue infection known as necrotising fasciitis.

There are many reasons as to why the patient developed necrotising fasciitis which include; post-operative complications, patient complications or simply incorrect sterilisation of the equipment which was used on the day. In Khusroo’s case it is highly possible that as he was a diabetic, proper precautions were not taken beforehand to control his blood sugar levels before the transplant procedure which led to the problems.

How to choose a surgeon

The skill and talent of hair transplant surgeons vary so widely which can determine how natural or full your new hair will look for the rest of your life. Unfortunately many hair loss clinics are currently unwilling or unable to dedicate the appropriate time and resources which are required to master and successfully perform a correct hair transplant procedure.

When you are evaluating a potential hair transplant surgeon, make sure you consider the following points;

  • The amount of experience the surgeon has in doing hair transplants. Consider factors such as how many hair transplant procedures the surgeon gets through within a day – ideally, the surgeon should be able to commit to working on a single patient all day if a large procedure is involved. You should also consider whether the surgeon is performing hair transplants full time or if they are only working predominantly on these procedures.
  • Consider the reputation of the surgeon amongst their peers along with patient reviews and results. Ideally the surgeon should also be able to show you plenty of high quality ‘before and after’ case photos so that you can review their work.
  • A reliable surgeon should be able to provide you names and phone numbers of previous patients who are willing to discuss their experiences. You can further verify claims by visiting forums online and search for discussions regarding the surgeon you are considering.
