SMP isn’t exactly a high maintenance treatment choice. Just keep your hair shaved, moisturise and use sunscreen. One client however is taking SMP a step further and pursuing a zero maintenance approach
In comparison to other hair loss solutions, most would agree that SMP is pretty easy to live with. Sure, you need to keep your hair short with clippers or a shaver, or by wet shaving in the shower. You need to keep your scalp well moisturised and protected from the sun. The only other consideration is that you may need a short touch-up session every 5-10 years or so, but in the grand scheme of things SMP is definitely a low maintenance option.
Compare this to the alternatives – concealers can take a while to apply and force you to compromise your activities. A transplant procedure is rarely the end of the road due to poor hair retention rates and scarring. Hair systems can be a real burden, and pills like Propecia can lead to all kinds of side effects.
So what is the zero maintenance approach?
Consider the circumstances of a client with alopecia totalis, who as a result of his condition has lost all of his head hair. For an example please see the video below:
Of course this is not a condition that anyone would choose to have, however these clients experience some significant benefits after their SMP treatments.
- NO shaving meaning no irritation, and no morning routine at all, other than cleansing and moisturising the scalp
- NO blending restrictions. The client can have whatever shade and density they desire
- Over a period of many years as the pigments slowly fade, the treated area will continue to look 100% natural
These benefits are so compelling in fact, that one client has chosen to laser off his remaining scalp hair to effectively recreate this condition. In the clients own words:
Worst case, no more shaving for this guy and no more shadow. Best case, the SMP I have been reading so much about and researching proves to be as advertised when I see it in person in April and I let HIS go to work on a blank canvas. Win win for me.
