Millie Bobby Brown’s Hair Loss Experience

General Hair Loss

The talented teenage actress Millie Bobby Brown has been talking to W magazine about her time as a bald 11 year old and the lessons it taught her.

Millie Bobby Brown

At the ripe old age of 14 Millie Bobby Brown is the proud possessor of not one but two Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, we are not sure if they are even her proudest achievement to date… she also earned a place on the 2018 TIME magazine top 100 list, the youngest person ever to feature there and a testament to the fact that this teenager has a lot about her.

Going Bald

When she was just eleven years old she was required to shave her head for her coveted and breakthrough role in the Netflix hit show “Stranger Things”. “The shaved head was a big deal…” Millie told W Magazine. “On the one hand it was cool. When you’re bald, rain feels like a head massage. I’d walk in the rain, and people would look at me like I was crazy, I’d be smiling – so so happy to have the water hit my naked head.”

Even at the age of 11 this remarkable young lady was sharp enough to recognise that the reactions of people around her were far from uniform, particularly when it came to people she did not know. She went on “…on the other hand, people stared at me, wondering whether I was sick.” She recalls being saddened by the “hurtful” behaviour of some who she said would “laugh at me without knowing whether I was or wasn’t sick.”

Lesson In Compassion

Fortunately Millie looks back on the experience as a positive one that has made her a more compassionate person. “It was hurtful, but their attitude taught me something about compassion. In the end, being bald was the best thing I ever did – being different changed my life. I wanted to embrace my baldness and, hopefully, inspire other people.”

HIS Hair Clinic

Millie’s experience is one that will be all too familiar to those who have gone through hair loss, particularly those who went through the experience at a young age. Strangers laughing at you, and worse, is a feature. For this young girl of just 11 years to process the reaction she was seeing around her and to recognise it as a shortcoming in the other person… well that just impresses the hell out of us. Of course, it is slightly different when you have the fallback position of just letting your hair grow back.
