Can eggs prevent baldness?

Other solutions

Hair is made up of proteins and amino acids, and a great source of these are eggs which have proteins, fatty acids and vitamins. No wonder then that many people believe that eggs can prevent hair from being lost

Baldness is not an illness, yet it is a condition that affects over one third of the world’s population and can cause distress, anxiety and lead to depression. For many it is one of their best assets and to lose it can be devastating.

There are many triggers to hair loss some which can be controlled and others that cannot. Illness, poor diet, surgery, pregnancy and general ill health can cause the hair to lack lustre, thin and even fall out. As a rule, once the condition is over the hair will grow back. Genetic or pattern hair loss is more permanent but with today’s advancement in technology and research there are two approved medications available which can help prevent further hair loss and in some cases help with regrowth.

Eggs are a fantastic source of goodness for the hair. They can be used both internally and externally are readily available and relatively inexpensive, most households will keep a supply of eggs in. Eggs can bring a shine to the hair as well as make it stronger and less likely to break. The scalp can be nourished which will help with hair growth.

Hair has its own natural oil called sebum which can be stripped when using some products which can be harsh. Eggs will help to restore this natural oil and help it to be balanced in both the scalp and hair so preventing greasy hair and scalp or dry flaky scalps. When the scalp is dry it becomes inflamed and itchy which then damages the hair follicles and in advanced cases destroys them resulting in hair loss. It is the fatty acids contained in the eggs that will help with this.

The egg yolk is valuable for making the hair shine and preventing it from breaking. Lecithin, a fatty protein, will reduce frizzy hair and help it to become smooth and less brittle. Vitamin A which is present in the yolk helps with the production of sebum and therefore reducing dry flaky skin, dandruff. Vitamin B1 and 2 contain biotin, pantothenic acid and niacin for lovely shiny, healthy hair, vitamin B3 helps with hair growth, vitamin B5 or pantothenic acid can help to slow down grey hair, a sign of ageing, and B7 can help with renewing hair follicles and roots. So many vitamins within a small yolk can do wonders for the hair.

Other minerals that are rich within the egg include zinc, sulphur, iodine, potassium, sodium, magnesium, calcium, phosphorus and iron. All the essential minerals that are also healthy for the body and mind. The sulphur will help to stimulate the scalp and therefore hair growth whilst the proteins in the egg white help to strengthen hair follicles and the folate will stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss. Folic acid another essential mineral in hair growth is also present. Used as part of a daily diet will benefit in more ways than one and they can be cooked in a variety of ways and in many dishes.

The egg can also be used raw applied to the scalp or as an egg pack. When rinsing off the hair it is important to use cold water as warm water will curdle it and it becomes hard to remove. The hair should then be washed with a mild shampoo. After a few washes in this way a difference will be seen in the condition of the hair. Eggs have been used for many years, before the production of manmade products, for healthy shiny hair but started to die out as shop bought products could be used. Now with more turning to natural ways of improving health they are finding their way back.

Healthy hair does not just depend on the state of the scalp and hair, it is largely dependent on the general well-being of the body and mind. If hair loss is noticed with no apparent cause the advice of an expert should be sought as there maybe problems that have gone unnoticed and need treatment.

In conclusion eggs cannot prevent hair loss directly, but they can help to keep the hair in a good condition and promote general hair health.
